Why Use Surface Waves

• Constrained to the surface (1 to 20m for 60 to 8 Hz, typically) where most wastes are dumped.

• Largest phase (easy to record).

• Easy signal to generate using weight drop.

• Interpretation in terms of shear-wave velocity structure.
